Re charitable tax deductions

Note that a charitable tax deduction does not equal a tax saving. Countries handle charitable donations differently (the U.S.A. uses deductions, Canada, tax credits, and the U.K., tax relief and a system that pays tax credits to the charity rather than the donor), but the tax saving is generally roughly the amount of the donation times the marginal tax rate (the top rate for the person's income level).
