Conservation projects: description and assessment

This page is obviously in development. It will present information on stand-alone localized conservation projects that are of international importance.

We do not discount the value of local projects of less than international significance. Indeed, local/regional land trusts and organizations aiming to save a specific natural area are great, and because they are simple and usually involve volunteers, they are highly cost-effective for the donor. However, small local projects are far too numerous to be addressed by this site.

To start this page, we offer one example. Please let us know about other projects you feel are worthwhile.

Rincon Rainforest, Costa RicaFunds are needed to purchase as much as possible of the 4,500-hectare Rincon Rainforest, which borders Costa Rica's Area de Conservacion Guanacaste (ACG), a very important preserve on the Pacific coast containing a dry tropical forest ecosystem. The old growth Rincon Rainforest is of value in itself and as a buffer to and home of seasonal migrants from the ACG. Land not so purchased will be logged and converted to plantations.    savetherainforest.org's website     project's website
